POLAR A360

In February I picked up the new Polar A360 fitness tracker. I've never been someone who would track my workouts - I wouldn't even really track my runs. I put it down to not being very competitive - I've never strived to beat my best times - I mainly just exercise to avoid laying on the sofa and eating my way through the kitchen cupboards.

I really fancied getting an Apple Watch - after much consideration and a review of the bank balance, I decided to postpone the Apple Watch and stumbled across this: The Polar A360.

First things first - It looks smart - the attention to detail Polar have put into this watch is incredible - from the easy and sturdy fastening to the little engraved chrome 'Polar' logo on the watch strap - everything is sleek, tidy and as least bulky as possible. That's a thing that is most important for me when choosing a watch. I hate bulky accessories - whether its watches - sunglasses - phones or even wallets - I always go for understated and simple styles. And that is exactly what the Polar A360 offers - simplicity. Understated sophistication. It doesn't even really look like a sports watch. (Again another factor when choosing a good watch). I can wear my day to day clothes with my watch and still look smart and casual without a great big plastic watch attached to my wrist.

Whats more is that it pretty much does everything I wanted the Apple Watch for - The A360 has a coloured touch screen - it measures my heart rate - counts my steps - records my calorie burn - tracks my sleep - alerts me to notifications on my phone - I can even answer calls from my phone on my watch (however I still need to speak into the phone - not the watch - yes I have tried talking into the watch - after much embarrassment, it doesn't work). And to top all of that off - it's water proof .... yep - water proof! I can even track my distance if I wanted to do lengths in the pool!!

Not only does it do all the above - I can also pick workouts for the watch to track. There are so many 'Sport Profiles' to choose from such as Aerobics, Aqua Fitness, Badminton, Climbing (indoor), Football, Golf, Hiking, Inline Skating, Judo and even Kitesurfing to name a few! Literally every activity you have ever wanted to do - I can track my heart rate, calorific score and fat burn percentage whilst doing it.

Oh - and it also tells the time! Handy ... and it has a alarm function to wake you up gently in the morning ... helping you start your Monday a little less grumpy!!

Now if you are a keen athlete and/or are competing in Triathlons, Marathons or an Iron Man, this may not be the watch for you. The A360 does not contain a GPS however is does track Kilometres and your steps throughout the day. There is a Sport Profile specifically for Running and Swimming, however it mainly tracks your calorie burn, heart rate and fat burning percentage. Polar does offer more sport specific watches and you can find more info on those here: https://www.polar.com/uk-en

The A360 focuses more on keeping people active. It alerts you when you need to move if you've been idle for too long so you can't get away with vegging out on the sofa for more than an hour!! It is also perfect for 'Gym Junkies' with a sports profile for Strength Training and even CrossFit. For all you Group Exercise lovers out there is a specific Group Exercise function and, most recently, Polar have teamed up with Les Mills to provide sports profiles for all of their group exercise programs! Being a Les Mills instructor myself, I love being able to keep an accurate score of my calorie burn, heart rate and fat percentage during Bodypump, Bodybalance and all the Les Mills GRIT workouts! If you haven't done so already - take a look at my previous blog post on HIIT training and specifically Les Mills GRIT: http://manstyled.blogspot.co.uk/2017/05/hiit-training.html

You can get all of the above for a very reasonable £169.50 or even the brand NEW Polar A370 for the same price! That's a bargain compared to the Apple Watch at £269!!!!
